Media Graphics Class

These projects were the culmination of most of the semester’s work on understanding advertising, media, marketing, and product/service promotion. The assignment for this project was that students would work in groups of three. They would come up with a product or service to advertise. Assigning duties to each member of the group, the group would then go through the Three Phases of Commercial Production: planning, production, and post-production, and create a video commercial. In the end each group would present a production, based on the assignment.

These three “Commercials” are the result of this project.

The final project for this class was to work collaboratively as an entire group to work with the three phases of production again, but the focus was more on the completion with each group member participating to the fullest capabilities. Idea generation and how to accomplish the task to completion was the most difficult part of this project. Individually the students did collaborate well and jump in where needed to complete the project. While time did run short, it was a satisfying exercise in group collaboration that forced the students to reflect on the processes of production, the target audience, and presentational concept of a project that is to be a “commercial”.

One of the final projects for this class was a group project in claymation and stop motion. The class, as a group, was to design and produce a claymation animation. While time run out on the project, the exercise was successful in that the students were forced to collaborate on the project, assign responsibilities and otherwise work together to finish the project. They learned that stop motion is very time consuming, and although they didn’t have the time to edit each of the images used in the final production in Photoshop as they should have, that this part of the process would have been beneficial in creating a higher quality production. They also did not have the time to include the sound effects, voice over’s, and ambient music they had intended to, and it is clear that these too would have improved the quality of the story. The storyboard did include most of these features.
