History Project

2004-2005 History Day

This years' History Day students are hard at work researching topics related to the 2004-2005 theme "Communication in History". Seventeen students in grades 7-12 are involved in the program. All of them spend a day at UVM doing research and have been busy locating other sources, both secondary and primary.

Topics this year include:

• pigeons in war
• protest songs of the 60's
• the pony express
• Martin Luther King and Malcolm X
• tobacco advertising and teens
• horror films as mirroring concerns of society
• Civil War letters of Vermonters
• the myth of Coolidge as "Silent Cal"
• the use of posters during World War II
